Viewing the economic recovery from the rebound
During the epidemic, imported products can continue to be sold, and the role of China-Europe Express cannot be ignored. In the first half of the year, the number of China-Europe freight trains increased significantly, with a total of 5,122 lines operating, an increase of 36% year-on-year. The number of lines opened for several consecutive months hit a record high. While driving foreign trade exports, it also brought more imported goods to Chinese consumers.
It is not just the China-Europe Express. Despite the impact of the epidemic, the volume of railway freight has achieved contrarian growth. In the first half of the year, the national railways sent a total of 1.69 billion tons of cargo, a year-on-year increase of 3.6%.
'The steady recovery of railway freight volume is related to the resumption of work and production of enterprises.' Zhang Xiaodong, vice president of the Chinese Society of Logistics, believes that railway freight is an important 'barometer' of the economy, and the increase in freight volume indicates that my country's economy is picking up.
Take electric coal transportation as an example. Coal is an important basic energy source supporting the development of my country's national economy, and more than 50% of my country's coal is transported by rail. Since June, as the domestic economic activity has continued to increase, the demand for electricity has increased rapidly, and the coal demand of major power plants has increased sharply. According to a person in charge of the China Railway Taiyuan Bureau Group, the total volume of the Daqin Railway in June alone reached 38.95 million tons, an increase of 8.7% year-on-year, and a record high of 1.3842 million tons of electricity and coal in a single day. The shipment volume of Taiyuan Bureau Group Corporation also hit a record high of 2.29 million tons per day.
Various economic data released recently can also confirm this situation. For example, in June, automobile production and sales increased by 22.5% and 11.6% respectively year-on-year; in June, CPI rose by 2.5% year-on-year, lower than expected, and PPI rose month-on-month and improved for two consecutive months; as of the end of May, PMI has remained in honor for three consecutive months. Above the dry line all indicate that China's economy is gradually getting rid of the impact of the epidemic and is beginning to move on track.
The increase in railway freight volume, especially the rapid growth of the China-Europe Express train against the trend, also shows that my country's foreign economic development and logistics methods present new characteristics.
With the spread of the international epidemic, the 'blocking points' of logistics and transportation and the 'breaking points' of supply chains have gradually shifted from domestic to international. The 'pain points' of export orders have changed from insufficient production capacity to sluggish international market demand and poor traffic, which has caused many foreign trades. Enterprises are facing severe challenges.
On June 18th, Guangzhou opened a direct China-Europe train to Poland for the first time. This was also a China-Europe train that was 'privately customized' by the company. Huang Liming, chief engineer of the freight department of Guangzhou Railway Group, introduced that during the epidemic, the Guangzhou Railway Group accurately matched customer needs and launched a customized China-Europe train to help companies break through 'blocking points', fill up 'break points' and alleviate 'pain points.'
'Cross-regional and transnational multimodal transport and professional cooperation have become an important trend in the logistics industry.' According to Ma Renhong, executive chairman of the Guangdong Provincial Logistics Association, the rapid development of China-Europe Railway Express has actively promoted China's development of international markets on the one hand, and on the other On the one hand, profound changes have taken place in the global logistics landscape, and the global logistics industry chain has been expanded.
At present, China-Europe Express has realized round-trip transportation. While exporting products, it also imports timber, grain, milk and other goods from European countries such as Russia, Poland, Germany, and the Netherlands. While driving the warming of trade along the route, it has also begun to shift from being driven by external demand to driven by domestic demand, providing consumers with more choices.
Through the railway freight data in the first half of the year, it can also be found that although the national railways’ cumulative shipments increased by 3.6% year-on-year, freight revenue fell by 4.2% year-on-year. This is mainly because the railway department has paid a certain cost for the prevention and control of the epidemic and the stability of the supply chain.
According to the person in charge of the freight department of China Railway Group, in the first half of the year, in the face of the severe impact of the epidemic on the logistics supply chain, China Railway Group gave full play to the advantages of railway capacity, all-weather, and centralized and unified command, opened up green channels, and actively rushed for transportation. Epidemic prevention and civilian and biological resources should be shipped as and when necessary. At the same time, implement the central government's tax and fee reduction policy, lower some of the freight and miscellaneous expenses, reduce enterprise logistics costs, and promote the resumption of work and production.
As the country's largest railway bureau group company, after the outbreak, the freight volume of China Railway Shenyang Bureau Group Co., Ltd. has always maintained a year-on-year increase of more than 10%. Bulk goods such as coal, metal ore, steel, and grain are continuously transported to all parts of the country through the railway artery, which has greatly promoted the development of epidemic prevention work and helped enterprises across the country to resume work and reach production.
Looking forward to the second half of the year, the person in charge of the freight department of China National Railway Group stated that as China’s economic and social order accelerates, the demand for freight transportation will continue to grow. The railway department will adhere to market demand as the guidance, continue to increase the effective supply of freight capacity, and continuously improve freight transportation. Service quality makes more contributions to promoting economic and social development.
