Shipping freight by rail from China to russia has always been the backbone of Russia's logistics system and are widely used to transport energy minerals and metals over long distances. In recent years, in order to improve transportation efficiency, Russian railway giant Russian Railways (RZD) has taken a number of measures to save transit time, such as launching door-to-door and just-in-time plans, and expanding the use of customs single windows, while continuously improving and providing faster shipping freight by rail from China to russia for container cargo.
At the six major ports, 7,908 China-Europe trains have been operated this year. In May alone, 1,724 trains were operated. In the first five months, a total of 861,327 containers were sent, an increase of 87,398 over last year.
In the first five months, the Alashankou Port operated 2,758 China-Europe trains, transporting more than 300,000 containers, the largest number of operations and shipments. The Manzhouli Port operated 1,961 trains, transporting more than 200,000 containers, ranking second.

1. China-Russia Rail Transport Route
Trains load in Shenzhen and Yiwu (collect and pack) → Depart from Zhengzhou, Xi'an, Chengdu → Exit via Khorgos → Kazakhstan → Moscow (customs, transfer, distribution) → Other Russian cities.
2. China-Europe Rail Transport Route
Trains load in Yiwu and Shenzhen → Depart from Chongqing (customs, loading) → Exit via Alashankou, Khorgos → Kazakhstan → Russia → Belarus → Poland, Malaszewicze (destination) → Lodz (customs, transfer, distribution to other European countries).
3. Central Asia Rail Transport Route
Routes from Zhengzhou, Xi'an, Yiwu → Through Khorgos/Alashankou → Central Asia (Almaty, Karaganda, Kostanay in Kazakhstan; Tashkent in Uzbekistan; Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan).
Advantages of Rail Transport Routes:

Transit times: China-Russia 10-15 days, Central Asia 12-15 days, China-Europe 18-20 days.

Suifenhe Railway Port
Completed in June 1899, the section from Suifenhe to Ussuriysk, Russia, was opened to traffic in 1900. In July 1903, the entire line from Suifenhe to Manzhouli was opened to traffic, with a history of more than 100 years. In January 1994, it was confirmed as an international railway passenger and freight transport port by the Chinese and Russian governments. In May 2003, the State Council approved the port visa work. The port's passenger and freight design capacity is 1 million passengers/33 million tons.
Tongjiang Railway Port
Tongjiang Railway Port was approved by the State Council to open to the public in March 2019, passed the national acceptance on September 25, 2022, and started cargo operation on November 16, 2022, implementing a 7×24-hour work system throughout the year. Because the Russian side of the Tongjiang-Nizhneleninskoye railway port has not yet built a transshipment station and customs inspection facilities, our goods can only be imported but not exported. However, with the joint efforts of provincial departments, on July 28, 2023, Tongjiang Port exported the China-Europe Express for the first time through the "wide-gauge re-export" method, which made a major breakthrough. So far, Tongjiang Port has been able to use this method to operate China-Europe Express trains on a regular basis, and the operation is safe and stable. The port has a passenger and cargo design capacity of 500,000 people/21 million tons.
Harbin Railway Port
In September 1996, the State Council approved the first pilot opening of the inland railway freight port in the country to handle international container transportation business. In 2016, the Harbin Municipal Government decided: Harbin Railway Freight Port moved to Harbin International Container Center Station. In January 2018, the Heilongjiang Provincial People's Government's Reply on the Relocation of Harbin Railway Freight Port (Heilongjiang Government Letter [2018] No. 1) agreed to relocate Harbin Railway Freight Port to Harbin International Container Center Station (No. 1, Xiangming Street, Xiangfang District, Harbin). The port's designed freight capacity is 5 million tons.

1. Customer consultation and consignment book:
Customers consult the freight forwarder about transportation needs, submit cargo information and export requirements, and complete the consignment book (consignment book).
2. Booking and confirmation:
The freight forwarder selects the appropriate China-Europe train route and schedule based on the customer's consignment book information, books the space, and confirms the space, freight and other service details with the customer.
3. Domestic operations:
• Preparation: The customer prepares the goods and related information to ensure that the goods meet the export and transportation requirements.
• Pickup and transportation: The freight forwarder arranges a special vehicle to pick up the goods from the customer's warehouse or factory to the warehouse at the railway station to ensure a seamless journey.
• Warehousing and tallying: After the goods arrive at the warehouse, they will be inspected for warehousing and the outer packaging of the goods will be checked. If there is any damage, take photos and feedback to inform the customer in time, and make simple repairs.
• Packing and sealing: Pack according to the loading requirements of the China-Europe train, take photos as required, complete the sealing, and wait for the box to be delivered to the station.
• Customs declaration and departure preparation: handle export customs declaration formalities, submit accompanying documents, follow up departure information in real time, and visualize the transportation trajectory through GPS.
4. International transportation:
• Monitoring on the way: the goods cross the border on the China-Russia train, and the transportation dynamics are continuously monitored through the logistics tracking system during the period.
• Arrival notification: when the train approaches the destination, confirm the flight information and notify the agent in the destination country in advance to prepare for the delivery.
• Customs clearance and pick-up preparation: after the train arrives, cooperate with the local agent to check and prepare customs clearance documents in time, obtain the necessary release ATB (Arrival Time Declaration), so that the goods can be picked up at the station.
• Unpacking and inspection: the local agent abroad completes the unpacking operation in time, checks the status of the goods, and notifies the consignee to pick up or make an appointment for delivery service after confirming that there is no damage.
• Delivery arrangement: according to the consignee's address, optimize the route to arrange the delivery service to ensure on-time delivery.
In order to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of LCL goods on the China-Russia train, the entire process involves close cooperation and meticulous operation of multiple links at home and abroad. From the consignment letter to the final delivery of the goods to the customer at the Russian destination, every step is crucial.
