Talking about Pallets

1. The origin of the tray

From a global perspective, the circulation of pallets among enterprises originated in the United States. In the Pacific War in the 1930s, the US military used pallets for the first time to improve the efficiency of cargo handling and ensure the supply of logistics materials. In 1946, the Australian government established a federal handling equipment sharing system. The utilization rate of standard pallets is as high as 95%. It has become the country with the highest proportion of standardized pallets in the world today, and has the largest pallet sharing system in the southern hemisphere. At present, pallets are widely used in countries all over the world and are considered to be one of the two key innovations in the logistics industry in the 20th century.

Second, the size of the pallet

The current international standards for pallets have six sizes. From the perspective of international trade, every national interest group hopes that other countries will adopt their own pallet standards so that their goods can make full use of the logistics equipment and facilities of other countries at low cost. Successfully enter the market of another country, but are unwilling to share any costs for other countries to change the pallet standard and then change the industry standard. Therefore, a country generally does not easily change its own pallet size standards. From the perspective of commodity trade, the pallet standard is a kind of technical barrier to trade, which can play a role in promoting commodity exports or protecting the domestic market.

Third, the classification of pallets

1. Flat tray

Flat pallets have the widest range of use, the largest number of uses, and the best versatility. Flat pallets can be subdivided into three types:

According to the table top classification. There are four types: single-sided, single-sided, double-sided and airfoil;

It is classified according to the way of forklift. There are three types: one-way fork-in type, two-way fork-in type, and four-way fork-in type;

According to material classification. There are five types: wooden flat pallets, steel flat pallets, plastic flat pallets, composite flat pallets and paper pallets.

2. Column tray

Column pallets are divided into two types: fixed and detachable. The basic structure is that the four corners of the pallet have steel columns. The upper ends of the columns can be connected by beams to form a frame type. The main function of the column pallet is to use the column to support the weight and stack it up; the other is to prevent the goods placed on the pallet from collapsing during transportation and loading and unloading.

3. Box pallet

Box pallets are pallets with side panels on all sides. Some boxes have a top panel, and some do not have a top panel. There are three types of boxes: fixed, foldable and detachable. The surrounding fence has plate type, fence type and net type. Therefore, the box pallet with fence type is also called cage pallet or warehouse cage. The box-type pallet has strong protection ability, which can prevent stacking and cargo damage; it can load special-shaped goods that cannot be stably stacked and has a wide range of applications.

4. Wheel tray

Compared with column pallets and box pallets, wheel pallets have more small wheels at the bottom. Therefore, the wheeled pallet shows the advantages of short-distance movement, self-carrying, or roll-up and roll-down loading and unloading, and has a wide range of uses and strong applicability.

5. Special special tray

Due to the high efficiency, safety and stability of the tray operation, especially in some occasions requiring fast operation, the importance of using the tray is highlighted.
