Cross-border e-commerce transaction volume surges

China's cross-border e-commerce transactions are exploding, which has spawned new charter flights and freight routes to meet demand. Alibaba's logistics department Cainiao said this week that it will increase the number of export charter flights to 1,260 in the next nine months. In March and April of this year, Cainiao International’s charter flights are close to 200, and the total will reach nearly 300 in May and June. The new flight will reduce the average international air delivery time by half to 3 to 5 days. In March this year, the company launched a new charter service from its Hangzhou headquarters to Kuala Lumpur, with five flights a week. Other new charter flights include Hangzhou, Hong Kong and Harbin to Moscow, Tel Aviv and Liege.

The company currently handles more than 20 international flights every week.

Data from Seko, an international third-party logistics giant, shows that as customers who stay away from home continue to increase online shopping orders, China's e-commerce transaction volume has reached a new high this year. The company’s Asia Pacific air transport and e-commerce business executive Gunasekla said: 'To maintain the flow of goods, some centralized shippers will buy 10 to 12 flights in a contract.'
